Hoysala kings have built approximately 1500 temples in a span of 350 years. The eighty main temples that can be added to the Hoysala style can be divided into eka-kuta, dwi-koota, tri-kuta, chatushkuta and pancha-kuta depending on the number of sanctum.
The outer walls of most of the temples are decorated with rich scluptures carved on stones depicting Hindu religious stories of Ramayana, Mahabharata, Bhagabata etc
